Welcome to the Club, Maine!
So I read today that the governor of Maine signed a same-sex marriage bill today (). First, props to Gov. John Baldacci for doing the right thing. Originally he was against same-sex marriage, but he came to the realization that it was the only solution that brought about equality for all. There is a chance that this piece of legislation could be over-ridden by a "people's veto", so they're a tentative #5 for now. Regardless though, let's count our eggs before they hatch: Massachusetts, Iowa, Vermont, Connecticut and Maine. Almost all of New England! Andy always said that New England is as progressive as Canada. It seems he may be right! Now we just need New Hampshire and Rhode Island to have gay marriage in all of New England.
