David Emerson's Crossing the Floor
Personally I think the whole controversy over Emerson's crossing the floor is blown way out of proportion. When Belinda Stronach crossed the floor to the Liberals for a cabinet post, yes it was a big news story but there wasn't as big a backlash. I think it IS hypocritical of the Conservatives to do it, and a lot of Conservatives don't like it themselves. And for Belinda to go on TV and criticize David Emerson for doing it is somewhat disingenuous. Yes it is opportunistic and individualistic. So was hers. Of all people she has no right to criticize it. True that he was elected as a Liberal in a riding where the Conservatives came in third. But does it make a difference how much of a percentage of a vote the party they switched to got? What if someone becomes an Independent? Anyhow, I'd rather have an elected MP from my riding as a member of the government than opposition. Emerson is taking a lot of heat, which is a shame. He seems like a decent guy. A lot of people don't like it when people cross the floor. But it's hypocritical for people to blame the Conservatives for doing it, and it's also hypocritical for the Conservatives to do it in the first place. Like I said. Blown way out of proportion by the media.
